The large Carrara marble statues in the four corners of Whitehall's Grand Hall are of Thalia, the goddess of happiness, Eirene, the goddess of peace and prosperity, Hesione, who represents marriage, and Thalassa, the goddess of the sea. Together these four allegorical figures symbolize Henry and Mary Lily Flagler's hope that Whitehall would be a home by the sea, where they would prosper and enjoy a happy marriage.
