When it was completed in 1902, the New York Herald proclaimed that Whitehall, Henry Flagler's Gilded Age Estate, was "more wonderful than any palace in Europe, grander and more magnificent than any other private dwelling in the world."
Henry Flagler commissioned architect John Carrere and Thomas Hastings to design Whitehall. Carrere and Hastings designed the exterior of Whitehall, the interior layout, and completely controlled the design of the marble entrance hall and its grand double staircase. Built around the central courtyard, the house consists of two floors an attic and a basement.
Today, Whitehall is a National Historic Landmark and is open to the public as Flagler Museum. This distinctive scarf design features architectural design elements from both the interior and exterior of Whitehall along with the numerous palm trees found on the property. The design measures 36" x 36" and is 100% silk satin fabric.
